Soon after the its establishment, the laboratory has remained occupied with activities pertaining to education, training and extension.
A workshop cum Training program, ‘Applications of Biodiversity Informatics in Forestry’ was organised on February 24-25 2009. It was sponsored by DBT.
Training on the application and operation of ArcInfo 9.3 software was imparted to 12 officers of FRI from Feb. 6 to 10, 2009.
The students of FRI University are being delivered lectures on remote sensing, GIS and GPS from 18th March 2009.
A Satellite Interactive Terminal (EDUSAT) was installed and commissioned in the FRI University. The students of FRI University will be benefited by participating in the live programs on remote sensing, GIS and GPS. They will be registered and given a certificate after passing the exam. Several other programs on the topics of interest like environment, climate change etc. are also being received and recorded. The information regarding these programs is circulated and the program is shown in the Conference Hall of FRI University.
a) The following two projects have been recently approved:
1. Development of Deodar (Cedrus deodara) and Blue Pine Information System has been approved.
2. Digitisation of Forest Pathology Herbarium
b) The Website design and development (content management system based) of FRI and its academic wing (FRI University) is in advance stage of under progress
