F.9-25/89-03, Ministry of Human Resource & Development, Dept. of Education, Govt. of India Dated 6th December, 1991 the Forest Research Institute-dehradun shall be deemed to be a University (Published in Gazette of India, Part I,Section I) .Forest Research Institute, Dehradun made a humble beginning from the Forest School established in 1878. Initially named as Imperial Forest Research Institute, FRI came into being in 1906.
